BREAKING HEALTH AND SAFETY NEWS!! AAPBA WEIGHT PULL SPORTS TAKES A MAJOR STANCE |
Revenue VS. TRUE STRENGTH Revenue VS. TRUE STRENGTH With over a decade of experience of throwing weight pull shows, judging, keeping track of titles and scored points, the AAPBA All Breed Dog Registry in is the unique position of researching files and dog records including studying specific changes in breeds. And what was found was quite surprising and sad. We have personally watched certain breed's change, mutate and even become genetic, problematic messes. For many breeds the word breed standard is not in place for breeders to strive for an over glorified status or award that carries no title. For years competitors and breeders have believed that by achieving a "most weight pulled" award is some type of accomplishment. The ultimate accomplishment has always been pound for pound. Pound for Pound is the truest test to measure the strength of a dog pulling weight. We truly believe its time for all registries to discontinue ignoring the hazards and red flags that are clearly evident in their Most Weight Pulled arenas. A false sense of accomplishment and awarding that must be eliminated. Only offering a Pound for Pound award is the solution to that problem. We urge registries not to take a blind eye on this matter but support the true competitor and truest award of strength. We understand that revenues are achieved by holding Most Weight Pulled events but it is time to look past the money and start focusing on what is really a true accomplishment of strength and power for all breeds. Most Weight Pulled is not a title and most important not a true measurement of strength. The only true reading and measurement of strength is in the Pound for Pound arena for all breeds of dogs. I have come to the conclusion that once again the AAPBA will set the standard for safety, competition and for the love of dog's. We are responsible in setting trends in the world of dog showing when it comes to events and safety and have noticed we have inspired others to follow and emulate the AAPBA but if there was ever a time to copy the Premier Breeds standards again now is the time. We have conversed with veterinarians about this subject and have made a final decision on behalf of all dogs' health and safety in which we all as dog lovers agree upon. As of February 10, 2008 Pound for Pound will be the standard measurement of strength and the only trophy awarded at our weight pull sports show. The All American Premier Breeds Administration will no longer recognize or award points for "Most Weight Pulled." The AAPBA strongly urges to take the highest precautions and safety measures when training for the highest test of strength and power. Please consider the health and welfare of the dog. Please research a dog's bloodline for any predestined faults and incorrect genes that are passed on in bloodlines. Please research the history of past dog for any illegal substance abuse or inhumane practices that might have occurred to ancestry dogs of your dogs bloodline to further it's record of accomplishment and winnings. We advise that you take the necessary steps to provide the proper health tests from certified veterinarians along with their professional opinions on the issue of strength testing your dog. We thank you for reading our final decision and thoughts on this matter. |
